Dorothy Loved Booking Amelia River Cruises

September 15, 2019

Meet Dorothy!

Dorothy, originally from California, Long Beach area, moved to Amelia Island in the 1970’s. It was love at first sight (of course!). Her favorite part of living and working on Amelia Island is…  everything! “I just love the whole part of living on Amelia Island. Working here, the beach, Fort Clinch, that I can look across the Intracoastal Waterway and see Cumberland Island and the horses, the Amelia Historic District, Downtown, the restaurants/shop owners. My best friends were made by just stopping in and chatting with people. The entire island is wonderful.”

Dorothy has a slightly different hiring story than some others because we sought her out! She worked at the Ritz-Carlton, Amelia Island for 11 years. During that time, she booked the Amelia River Cruises tour over and over again. She always recommending it to visitors. Why? “The reason I booked Amelia River Cruises so much was the people’s reactions when they went. They loved it!”

But, after 11 years, Dorothy decided to make a change. This past spring, she began working part time at the Golf Course of Amelia Island. When we caught wind of her employment change, we called immediately and asked if she wanted to work on her days off… “I jumped on it!”

“The reason I booked Amelia River Cruises so much was the people’s reactions when they went. They loved it!”

Now that she has been with us for a few months she has really become part of the Amelia River Cruises team. “The staff at Amelia River Cruises are so great and so fun.  I love talking to our guests on the phone, hearing about why they are going on a cruise, getting them prepared and helping them feel like a part of our family, so when they arrive, they are excited and feel comfortable. Then after they take the cruise it’s so much fun asking them about their trip, hearing their stories and about what they enjoyed.”

While her job has been a blast so far what Dorothy is really excited about is her Maritime card!! “I just got my Maritime Card!! I can’t wait to be a mate and working on the boat!” She’s just about to start helping with some marketing and outreach efforts as well and we are thrilled to have such a wonderful team player on board.

We are so happy that Dorothy took us up on our offer. And can’t wait to see her growth year to year. She is so personable and fun to talk to … so much so that her interview for this blog kept getting cut short!! So, when you see her ask her for some island stories. I hear she has some good ones, and I haven’t even heard them all yet!!

Come meet Dorothy and while you are here why not hop on an Amelia River Cruise.
