This Is How You Plan a Relaxing Weekend Trip on a Budget

October 28, 2018

You work hard all week. While working, cleaning, organizing, running errands, and family responsibilities are all worthy of your time, sometimes you need a getaway — and that getaway does not have to require time off, months of planning, or breaking the bank. Here are some tips for planning a relaxing weekend trip on a budget.

This Is How You Plan a Relaxing Weekend Trip on a Budget

Whether you love the mountains, the beach, big cities, or quaint towns, the world is your oyster. The first step in planning a weekend getaway is to choose a destination. If you’re looking to keep costs low, consider going to a place during the off-season. You are not restricted to local destinations. A short road trip, plane, or train ride can be just what you need.

Find the Best Deals

One great thing about the internet is that you can book your whole trip and find the best prices in moments without ever leaving your home or entering into a lengthy phone call. It only takes a few minutes to search for packages and deals for Priceline, discounts and coupons for Hotels.com, and weekend specials and promo codes for Enterprise. Some of the sites offer great prices on last-minute offers and others will offer a discount on already discounted prices.

Also, don’t forget to check out cost-cutting websites such as Coupons.com before you head out. These sites can help increase your savings by providing additional discounts for much-needed items to take on your trip. Oftentimes, these sites carry coupons for restaurants, which you can use while traveling to or at your destination.

Staycations

Sometimes the traveling can be a deterrent, and perhaps you would like to save a little extra money but still have that getaway experience. If so, consider options closer to home. Whether you stay in your own town and do all the things you never get to do, go camping, or rent a house, the change of scenery can be just what the doctor ordered. A perk of a staycation is that you spend little to no time getting to your destination and more time in relaxation and adventure.

Pack Strategically

You’ve probably heard about the art of packing light. There is a freedom that comes with leaving town with just a set of clothes and a modest bag. However, if you want to save money, you need to think strategically. Nothing chips away at your bank account like a ton of little purchases here and there. For instance, bring a couple of books that you’ve wanted to read for years; otherwise, you may get inspired and impulse buy a collectible hardback at a bookstore. Bring snacks for the way there and for when you get there or you might rack up a bunch of purchases at vending machines, convenience stores, and kiosks. What you pack matters.

Get Groceries

Finally, go straight to the grocery store after you arrive at your destination and unpack. If you’re staying somewhere with an oven and stove, buy the groceries you need to make a few meals from your place. Even if your place doesn’t provide you access to cook, you can still pick up items such as fruit, cheese, nuts, bread, and sandwich meats. Deciding to eat out once or twice, instead of every meal, will reflect well on your budget.

With little planning and expense, take the time to escape. Start by deciding where you want to go — near or far. Determine your budget and peruse the plethora of websites that offer great deals. Also, don’t hesitate to go on a staycation if that’s what you need. And remember to pack strategically and buy groceries. Wherever it may be, a luxurious weekend getaway to rejuvenate your soul is just what the doctor ordered to slow down your fast-paced life.
